I finally pinned down a new date for my next Green Beauty Class! It will be held in the West Hollywood area of Los Angeles. (Exact location will be emailed to all attendants a couple weeks in advance).

EVERYONE IS WELCOME! Whether you’re an aspiring makeup artist or just want to learn new tips how to do your own makeup, I will cover everything from day to evening looks, hands-on makeup applications, skin regimens for your specific skin type, how to “greenify” your makeup bag, what ingredients to look for in a product and what ingredients to avoid, and much much more.

***PLEASE NOTE*** This particular class will be a little different than the last one– I have had so many people interested in the DAY 1 class, for example, actresses who want to learn how to do their makeup for auditions, or women who just want to learn more about green beauty and how to use it. Therefore, I will most likely only offer the DAY 1 class this time.

Mineral makeup has become very popular in the last few years. The loose powder foundations,blushes and shadows are light, finely ground loose minerals that are buffed into the skin using a wide, fluffy brush. The main ingredients (minerals such as mica, zinc oxide, and titanium dioxide), have been the basis of most makeup foundations for decades, but many dermatologists report that because mineral makeup frequently eliminates classic irritants such as fragrances, binders, synthetic dyes, talc, and preservatives, it is considered purer and can be kinder to the skin.

Because titanium dioxide and zinc oxide have anti-inflammatory properties, certain mineral makeups can also have a calming effect on the skin, particularly important if you suffer from inflammatory problems such as rosacea or acne. Mineral makeup also is known for being noncomedogenic, and many manufacturers claim it also offers sun protection. This is mostly due to to the high content of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide — two ingredients commonly found in traditional sunscreen.

Many people say they are initially drawn to try mineral makeup because of skin health claims — more specifically, that its pure formulations are safer and better for sensitive and acne- or rosacea-prone skin. Those who love it rave about the light, natural, long-lasting glow. Others, however, complain that it’s drying, irritating, and accentuates wrinkles. Some say the colors have an ashy undertone that is a particular problem for ethnic skin types. Others says it’s messy and expensive, but fans say the containers last an inordinately long time, and if you’re careful when applying, it’s no messier than any other makeup.

Mineral makeup, like any other makeup has it’s followers but not all. It’s really a preference thing. If you haven;t already tried it out, I recommend brands like Everyday Minerals, Jane Iredale Minerals and Pur Minerals.

I relocated to Los Angeles to begin my own journey into the beauty industry.  The move not only changed my career, it also opened my eyes to a more healthy way of living.  It seemed that everywhere I turned, Californians weren’t just talking about getting healthy, they were talking about “going green.”  How can we help the environment?  How can we use less energy?  How can each of us start making a difference in our own way?  I wondered how I could make a difference.  How could I make my concern for the environment a part of my work, my passion, my everyday trade?

At the same time, I began to notice a distinct shift in the cosmetics industry.  Just as nutritionists were discouraging people from eating food that contained a laundry list of unpronounceable ingredients, there was also a heightened awareness of potentially harmful ingredients found in cosmetics.  I discovered that there were toxic ingredients listed right on the packaging of many conventional cosmetics. That was when I realized how I could help the environment every day!  Why not start using eco-friendly cosmetics in my practice?  And that’s exactly what I did.

I now use all eco-friendly cosmetics on my clients.
